Director of Project and Change Delivery (Maternity Cover)

The Opportunity

Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Director of Project and Change Delivery (Maternity Cover) in the UK (London or Remote) or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office worldwide. 

Role Purpose:

The Director of Project and Change Delivery is a key role within the Transformation Delivery and IT Management Team. The Director of Project and Change Delivery has a responsibility for the global approach to Project Management, Change Management and Continuous Improvement including development of the core methodologies and associated capability development across the movement. This includes the development and training of the core methodologies including Agile Scrum, Change Management Approach, the Project Lifecycle and ADI.

In addition to managing Project and Change core capabilities across the movement, this role owns the shaping of all new global transformation initiatives via feasibilities as well as interventions post feasibilities as required to ensure the success of the transformation portfolio. To enable the delivery of feasibilities and interventions this role is required to directly steer Project, Change and Intervention Managers to ensure the delivery of the above scope as well as managing a complex set of initiatives and ensuring the effective recruitment of Project and Change Resource across the TDIT department. This critical work will include overseeing the assessment of needs and associated requirements, ensuring initiatives are effectively scoped and sized and managing the associated governance. With regards to interventions, the role holder will be required to proactively identify and respond to escalations with regards to escalations relating to in-flight initiatives, assess the issue and identify the required solution and associated resourcing, identifying external resource where required.

This role will ensure the quality of project and change resource operating across the movement and in addition to capability development they will take a leading role in the recruitment of all Project and Change Resource required across TDIT. This could involve directly recruiting roles for their own team as well as assessing and sizing needs in the wider team and providing input into recruitment to assure the required high standards of resource are maintained.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential:

  • Substantial experience with the successful management and deployment of large, transformation projects in complex organizational environments, preferably including experience in less developed or high-risk environments
  • Experience of industry project and management standards and holding project teams accountable to those standards
  • Proven experience of managing global teams with diverse skillsets
  • Demonstrable experience of acting as a ‘business partner’ to functional areas e.g. Supply Chain, Finance etc.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment with high levels of change and quick turnaround times, whilst delivering to the highest standards
  • Substantial people and team management experience, including strong coaching skills
  • The ability to operate successfully in a ‘matrix’ organisation
  • Ability to resolve complex project issues, with a balance of pragmatism and rigour
  • Experience leading agile projects in a complex environment with both IT and non-IT scope
  • Experience owning the development and ongoing maintenance of project and change management methodologies

Desirable:

  • Experience of ‘field operations’ and the IT-related issues associated with working in remote and fragile environments
  • An understanding of key trends in international and humanitarian development and how technology can and is being utilised to support these developments

We can offer circa £84,000 per annum (If based in the UK) with an option of flexible working hours. If the role is based outside of the UK, National Terms & Conditions (including pay and benefits) will apply.

This role can be based in the UK (London or Remote) or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location for the duration of the contract.
